Sensei Liam Musiak

Co-Founder | Head Sensei

2nd Dan Black Belt | Criminologist | Head Sensei at Voracious Karate.
17+ years Karate Experience

Who Am I?

Sensei Liam Musiak is the founder of Voracious Karate and the architect of its unique, reality-driven approach to martial arts. Holding the rank of 2nd Dan Black Belt, Sensei Liam is widely recognised for having skills, knowledge, and teaching ability far beyond what is typically expected for this rank. He has been described as having the knowledge and skills of a man who has been doing karate for over 50 years — yet in reality, Sensei Liam has been training for 17. That is his level of dedication.

Sensei Liam’s unmatched innovation marks him as a true outlier in the martial arts world. In his journey, he saw how karate — despite its strengths — had in some areas lost its way, especially when it came to moving forward and adapting for real-world application. Whilst he has great respect for tradition, he was not prepared to let it hold back himself, his students, or the art itself. It was from this belief that Voracious Karate was born, and many of his students refer to his approach as Evolving Wado Ryu.

Unlike most instructors who simply pass on a fixed syllabus, Sensei Liam has created every grading syllabus at Voracious Karate himself — each designed with an unwavering focus on realism, effectiveness, and adaptability. These are widely regarded as the most demanding, most realistic, and most innovative martial arts syllabuses on the planet. His 1st Dan Black Belt syllabus in particular has been described as the most demanding and realistic on the planet, combining traditional kihon, advanced striking, kata, padwork, scenario training, pressure drills, and full-contact sparring into a seamless, highly challenging system.

An Innovator in Karate

Every drill used in the club was invented by Sensei Liam, each designed to build precision, resilience, and adaptability under pressure. He is the author of the A.A.E.E.L. Self-Defence Code — a structured, practical framework for self-defence that balances tactical response with ethical and legal awareness.

Sensei Liam has also developed six original kata, each with its own philosophy and tactical application:

    •    Chōtenzan – “Peak of the Summit”

    •    Kibōken – “Sword of Hope”

    •    Meikyōzuki – “Clear Mirror Thrust”

    •    Genseiryoku – “Mysterious Energy”

    •    Yūgensei – “Profound Star”

    •    Kanzenkō – “Perfect Light”

These kata are not simply sequences of moves — they are training systems in themselves, designed to challenge and evolve a student’s understanding of timing, movement, and combat application.

Teaching Excellence

Sensei Liam is known for his ability to break down complex techniques into clear, logical steps that students of any level can grasp. His classes balance intensity with approachability — ensuring that even the most demanding drills are achievable through guidance, encouragement, and precise correction. Students consistently praise his eye for detail, his patience, and his ability to adapt his teaching style to suit the individual.

He is equally effective in teaching children, adults, beginners, and advanced martial artists. For beginners, he creates a safe, supportive environment that builds confidence from day one. For advanced students, he challenges them with innovative training methods that push them to the next level. His focus is always on producing well-rounded martial artists who are not only technically skilled, but mentally prepared for real-world self-defence.

What Students Say About Sensei Liam

Students describe Sensei Liam as the youngest Sensei they have ever had — but also the best Sensei they have ever had. They speak of his unmatched innovation, his ability to explain and demonstrate complex concepts with clarity, and his relentless dedication to their progress.

Adam Curzon said:

“Highly recommend, the classes are very fun, informative and very practical unlike any other karate class I’ve been to. Sensei Liam is very friendly and knows his stuff.”

Lawrence Medcalf said:

“Very highly recommend Voracious Karate. Had great first lesson, led by the very knowledgeable and passionate Sensei Liam. Already looking forward to my next lesson.”

Andy Mifflin said:

“It is after all that a friendly and supportive club with a Sensei who cares not just about his students but the future of the art.”

Many remark on his skills and knowledge being far beyond his age and rank, and how compared to others of the same age, his maturity and discipline are exceptional. His approach has earned the respect of beginners and advanced martial artists alike, creating a training environment that is demanding yet inspiring, disciplined yet supportive.

A Teacher Who Leads by Example

Sensei Liam’s daily training, attention to detail, and unwavering commitment to excellence have built a culture of respect, trust, and high standards within the dojo. He expects the best from his students because he demands the best from himself. Every technique he teaches has been tested, refined, and proven — not just in theory, but in realistic, high-pressure scenarios.

Criminology, Criminal Psychology & Crime Analysis

Beyond martial arts, Sensei Liam is an independent criminologist whose work covers the full spectrum of criminal behaviour and its impact on society. Within the academic field, areas such as criminology, criminal psychology, and crime analysis are often spoken of separately, but criminologists themselves state clearly that they all fall under the broader discipline of criminology. Liam’s work therefore draws from all of these perspectives, combining them into an applied system focused on survival and prevention.

Criminology – examining the causes of crime, its patterns, escalation, and the role society plays in shaping both offender and victim behaviour.

Criminal Psychology – studying the minds of offenders, their compulsions, mental disorders, manipulation, and the disturbing drives that push some individuals to commit violent crimes.

Crime Analysis – identifying methods, victim types, escalation patterns, and the tactics predators use to gain trust, isolate, and overpower their victims.

Liam has written extensively on some of the most infamous killers in history, including Ted Bundy, Jack the Ripper, Gary Ridgway (the Green River Killer), Ian Brady and Myra Hindley (the Moors Murderers), Fred and Rose West, Edmund Kemper, Jeffrey Dahmer, Peter Sutcliffe (the Yorkshire Ripper), Dennis Nilsen, the Zodiac Killer, Aileen Wuornos, Samuel Little, Joseph James DeAngelo (the Golden State Killer), Richard Chase (the Vampire of Sacramento), and Harold Shipman. His purpose is not to glorify or sensationalise their crimes, but to **uncover their methods and compulsions, and to turn those insights into practical lessons in safety and survival.

For example, his analysis of Ted Bundy explores not only how Bundy lured victims with charm, deception, and impersonation, but also how his compulsion escalated into frenzied, uncontrolled violence once he realised his freedom was slipping away. His work on the Moors Murders highlights how Myra Hindley’s presence lowered victims’ guard, while his writing on Fred and Rose West examines how violence fed into their mental illness and how they concealed atrocities within a seemingly ordinary community life. Each case is used not for morbid fascination, but as a practical tool for awareness and education.

From this research, Liam has developed a series of original frameworks that bring criminology into the self-defence world. Codes such as the B.U.N.D.Y. Code, C.O.N.S.E.N.T. Code, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Code directly translate his studies into practical systems that ordinary people can remember and apply in moments of danger. These codes address issues such as predatory behaviour, stalking, sexual assault, and manipulation — bridging the gap between theory and survival.

Through this dual role as Sensei and Criminologist, Liam has created a rare and powerful combination: the physical ability to fight, the psychological understanding of predators, and the strategic insight to prevent violence before it happens. His mission is clear — to study crime in all its forms, expose the darkest methods of offenders, and transform that knowledge into practical strategies that empower people to stay safe and in control.

Skills Beyond Karate

In addition to his work in karate and criminology, Sensei Liam has undertaken training, study, and experience across a wide range of disciplines from the Bugei Jūhappan — the recognised 18 skills of the ninja. Out of these 18, Sensei Liamhas developed skills, knowledge, and experience in 11 disciplines. These are:

Taijutsu (Unarmed Combat)

The art of using the body as a weapon. This includes striking, joint locks, throws, ground fighting, and survival tactics applied in a direct, realistic way.

Shinobi iri (Stealth & Infiltration)

The discipline of moving silently and remaining unseen. This involves controlling footsteps, breathing, and posture to reduce sound, using shadows to mask presence, and exploiting light and dark to blend into surroundings. It also covers patience, timing, and the ability to close distance without detection.

Kenjutsu (Swordsmanship)

The discipline of Japanese sword combat, with skill in handling the katana using both live blades and traditional methods.

Bōjutsu (Staff)

The art of long staff combat, with proficiency in striking, sweeping, and defensive staff techniques.

Shurikenjutsu (Throwing Weapons)

The study of throwing blades and projectiles, with practical training in the use of shuriken for precision and control.

Bōryaku (Strategy & Deception)

The use of tactical thinking and misdirection to outmanoeuvre opponents, applied in sparring, self-defence scenarios, and wider strategic planning.

Chōhō (Espionage & Intelligence)

The skill of gathering information and reading environments to gain advantage, combining awareness, analysis, and tactical observation.

Intonjutsu (Escape & Concealment)

The discipline of disappearing from pursuit and avoiding capture. This involves breaking line of sight, using natural and man-made cover, and knowing when to stay hidden or move. It includes methods of masking movement, reducing visibility, and misleading pursuers to create escape opportunities. Intonjutsu is about vanishing from awareness — not just physically, but psychologically — leaving opponents unsure where you are or if you were ever there at all.

Hensōjutsu (Disguise & Impersonation)

The art of altering appearance, behaviour, or presence in order to mislead, distract, or blend into the environment.

Chimon (Geography & Terrain Use):

Understanding and exploiting terrain for survival, applying guerrilla-style fieldcraft in both urban and rural environments.

Seishin-teki Kyōyō (Mental Refinement)

The cultivation of self-discipline, calmness, and emotional strength.

Holding skills, knowledge, and experience in 11 of the 18 recognised ninja disciplines, Sensei Liam demonstrates a breadth that combines combat, strategy, stealth, and psychology. This strengthens his already unique blend of Karate, criminology, and real-world self-defence, making his approach one of the most complete and forward-thinking systems in the UK today. His work bridges ancient martial skills with modern practicality, proving that adaptability, awareness, and discipline remain timeless.

Sensei Liam also has experience in Kali, particularly with knives and Eskrima sticks, which strengthens his practical understanding of armed combat. This knowledge also directly supports and enhances his knife defence training, giving him a deeper grasp of both offensive and defensive weapon scenarios.

The Mission

Whether guiding a beginner through their first stance or preparing an advanced student for the intensity of black belt testing, Sensei Liam’s mission is the same: to develop martial artists who are stronger, safer, more capable, and more confident — both inside and outside the dojo.
