I developed the S.P.A.R.T.A.N Code as a modern self-defence framework inspired by Spartan realism — not mythology, not romance, and not historical reenactment.
The Spartans didn’t survive because they had endless techniques. They survived because they understood preparation, structure, discipline, and mindset. That is what this code is built on — principles that hold up under pressure, not tradition for tradition’s sake.
This is not about fighting like a Spartan.
It’s about thinking like one in the modern world.
S — Situational Awareness
Violence rarely comes out of nowhere.
Situational awareness means constantly reading:
Behaviour, posture, and intent
Changes in atmosphere
Who is around you and where exits are
Most self-defence failures happen before contact. Awareness is the first and strongest layer of defence.
P — Positioning
Where you stand matters more than what you know.
Positioning includes:
Distance management
Angles and barriers
Exit awareness
Avoiding being cornered
Bad positioning turns good skills into liabilities. Control space before you try to control people.
A — Adaptability
No plan survives contact with reality.
Adaptability means:
Dropping techniques that aren’t working
Adjusting instantly to size, numbers, weapons, or environment
Thinking under pressure instead of freezing
Rigid systems fail. Flexible minds survive.
R — Resilience
You may be tired, injured, shocked, or afraid.
Resilience is the ability to:
Function under stress
Stay mentally present
Continue despite discomfort
This is where most people fail — not physically, but mentally.
T — Tactics Over Ego
Self-defence is not about winning exchanges.
It’s about:
Escape over domination
Simple actions over flashy techniques
Survival over pride
Ego gets people hurt. Tactics keep people alive.
A — Accountability
Every action has consequences.
Accountability means understanding:
Legal responsibility
Ethical responsibility
Personal responsibility
Use only what is necessary. Self-defence is about survival — not revenge.
N — Never Stop Evolving
If your self-defence never changes, it’s already outdated.
I believe in constantly:
Testing methods honestly
Welcoming criticism
Removing what doesn’t work
Adapting to modern violence and modern law
Stagnation is failure.
The S.P.A.R.T.A.N Principle
Awareness prevents fights.
Positioning controls them.
Mindset survives them.
The S.P.A.R.T.A.N Code exists to keep self-defence honest, adaptable, and grounded in reality — not ego, not blind tradition, and not mythology.
